Kiki-Jack and a sibling were only about 2-wks old when they were rescued from New Orleans East. Kiki-Jack had a severe infection in both eyes. Efforts with medical treatment were unsuccessful at saving both eyes. He lost his left eye at the tender age of 4-wks and seems to only see shadows with his right. Kiki-Jack is now about 8-wks and with time he might gain more sight in that one eye, but for now he is legally blind. In the photo where he is laying with the dog (taken 5/22/07), it looks as if there is an eye there, but there isn't. It was not sutured shut because he was too young to stay under anesthesia. The vet does recommend it once he is a little older.
Kiki-Jack is eating on his own and using the littler box. If you are hesitant to adopt a blind cat, read more about life with blind kitties
here http://blindcatrescue.com /index.html . You will see that they are VERY adaptable and it is often hard to tell they are blind once they get
used to your household layout!  Soon Kiki-Jack will be ready for his special home. Are you the one? If not, then please help me find for him that special home. tipster@bellsouth.net or 504-512-0306. Location: New Orleans.

Bubba-Lu lives in New Orleans. He had just been neutered and released when he was found by a trailer resident dragging his back. The vet has determined he was rolled over by a car, and given that the ground was not solid concrete, his spine was not crushed. He is, however, paralyzed and likely that he will never regain any use of his back legs or his bodily functions.
On the other hand, Bubba-Lu is a very sweet and loving kitten, about 8 m/o, and is clueless or could care less about his handicap. He is not in
any pain. He plays, scoots quickly across the floor with his front legs and doesn't mind any of my dogs (except the Pitbull.) He climbs the cat
tree, but can't pull himself up on the perch, so he needs a little push from a human hand or a dog that could learn to do so (mine are too old
and lazy.) Bubba-Lu's bladder does need to be manually emptied at least twice per day. The diaper in the photos is mostly to keep him clean.
The problem is that I have too many animals already, including other special needs and seniors, and have very little help, so Bubba-Lu is
missing out on lots of one-on-one attention and interaction, which his personality is very deserving of. He loves to be cuddled and petted and
will kick a ball back to you (unintentionally, but still fun) with his front paws. He needs a special home with a family of his own.
Can someone out there give Bubba-Lu a special home?  Maria Alvarez tipster@bellsouth.net Stewardship For Strays

Oakland CA. I rescued Lily, an abandoned, lost and/or neglected cat.  She resembles this beauty.  Lily has yellow/green eyes, is petite, about 4 years old, leukemia and HIV free, and unfortunately is combatting an upper respiratory infection.  She is also 90% deaf, very playful and affectionate, and purrs like an idling Harley.  From my experience, I don't think she'd do well with other cats, unless she's Top Cat.  She also has precancerous-sunburned ears from exposure and she has not been spayed. Lily was hiding in a Goodwill store when I found her.  She'd been there all day apparently.  The store said they would put her back on the street when they closed.  I scooped her up in a towel and brought her to my car where she lived a few days until I was able to determine she was OK to bring into my cats home.  I've had her 6 weeks.  She's seen my vet a few times and is on her second round of antibiotics.  She and my cat do not get along.  I'm also ill, and the situation is wearing on my health.  I cannot find a shelter that will take her sick, and Animal Control will put her down, I've spoken with them.  I love this cat, though must give her up, but to whom?  I hope you can help and/or point me in the right direction.  I've posted a sign with my vet, no responses yet.  Lily is a very special, spunky and sweet cat, I'll miss her very much (unlike Emma (my cat).  Marsha Hultberg  510 839-1351 mahdaw@pacbell.net posted 5/07

Chanel (as in Chanel #5) is a pretty, VERY friendly cat who has had some hard times. She was found wandering in an attic by someone who brought her to the shelter. She was so dirty... the end of her tail was black and matted, and she smelled terrible. Our vet discovered that the end of her tail was damaged and it was rotting! Poor girl. The whole time, she didn't complain- she just wanted to be petted. The end of her tail has been removed and she's healing nicely. However we found out that in addition to the end-of-the-tail issue, there was also some damage to her spinal cord. The result is, she has trouble controlling where she eliminates. She just doesn't know when it's happening.  Anyone out there want to be an angel and make a real difference in the life of a nice kitty who's had some really tough breaks?  Carol Lew,452 Washington Mountain Road,Washington, MA 01223  email: carollew@bcn.net  phone: 413-623-0202

3/31/07 Squeek showed up in our backyard in June 2006 limping on a bloody front paw. We'd seen him around and assumed he belonged to one of the neighbors. I managed to grab him and as I was stuffing him into a carrier he severely bit me. I must have hurt or scared him. I canvassed the area and everyone seemed to know him but no one owned him. We took him to the vet and had him all fixed up, vaccinated, neutered, de-fleaed-wormed-ear mited etc. He developed diabetes and an unknown seizure disorder both of which are well controlled with 1 unit of insulin a day, Wellness Grain Free canned food and pheno-barb. About 6 months later his former owner showed up asking how he was! Nice to know he cared! Apparently Squeek grew up with 2 big dogs... LOVES dogs, just ga-ga over dogs.... and unfortunately HATES cats. We have 7, 5 of which are rescues we couldn't find homes for. His medication is very inexpensive, he just needs a home with no other cats... he'd be great as an indoor cat for a house with big dogs. He's an amazingly wonderful, friendly cat, about 3 years old... this is the blurb from his flyer:
Squeek is a slim elegant looking guy with gorqeous gold eyes.
LOVES: dogs especially playing & napping with them, all kinds of people (he's fascinated with kids), watching ducks, walking on a leash (especially with his buddy the Boston Terrier from next door), cardboard boxes and stray pieces of paper. He is a COMEDIAN! He has a pristine white chin, belly and paws with cafe au lait head back and tail... the longest tail we've ever seen at fourteen inches! His coat is silky and soft. He's very intelligent, curious and loving.
CONTACT: Susan Griffin, jands@fastimap.com
Squeek is located in Margaretville, NY and we'd be willing to travel from Maine to Virginia to deliver him to a responsible new home.

Griet is an extremely sweet older female cat who showed up at our house as an emaciated stray. Her health has greatly improved; however, we quickly discovered that she has frequent, severe seizures. She is on daily medication (phenobarbitol) which controls the seizures, which are due to some sort of neurological condition. She is a little uncoordinated but that is part of her charm. She is extremely sweet and mostly wants someone to pet and brush her and a good spot to sleep in, though very occasionally she is interested in playing. She likes the company of humans and other animals. She is not scared of cat-friendly dogs and is passive when other cats swat or hiss at her. For anyone who wants a lapcat just waiting to start purring, and who is willing to have a kitty with special needs, she would be a great companion. she is in Portland, OR. email nettle.ito@gmail.com    3-07

I have a "Morris Wannabe" cat that is in need of a good home.  He is an indoor cat and cannot be around any other animals.  He has special needs, such as special food needs, and the fact that he cannot be with other animals.  He is a loving, loyal, and very quiet animal who has a lot of love to give to someone.  He is skiddish as he was abused as a kitten, with high pitched noises, or sounds.  If you are interested in becoming this cats partner, Please contact me in Niantic, Ct. @ 860-739-2086.  Any help would be sooooo appreciated.

MEET STEWART!!  This young man appeared on the doorstep of a veterinary clinic in Birmingham, Michigan, over a year ago and has been living there ever since.

Always with a thoughtful expression on his dignified face, Stewart charmed his way into the staff's hearts. Although they would love to have him as part of their clinic family, they believe Stewart would be happier with a family of his own who would have more time to take part in his favorite activities: playing, curling up in a warm lap, and brushing his soft fur.

Stewart needs a devoted family who will understand and care for his special urinary needs. As a result of a surgery he had before he came to the clinic, Stewart has a very narrow urinary opening which caused him to develop recurrent urinary tract infections. These are easily treatable with antibiotics given by a dedicated owner, and require occasional recheck visits to the vet.

Stewart would enjoy spending his days in a cozy barn or safe outdoor enclosure, alone or with other laid-back cats. He also is accustomed to wearing his "potty pants" – a small pair of washable cat pants with a disposable diaper that is easily changed – if he decides to spray or not use his litter box while indoors, hopefully in a room with hard wood floor or tile. Stewart is currently on anti-anxiety medication, although the staff is hopeful that he may not need to stay on it long-term, depending on his housing situation.

Stewart is a neutered six-year-old, vaccinated for distemper and rabies, and Felv and FIV negative.

A mellow guy, Stewart would be a wonderful addition to a caring and loving family. Stewart is waiting to meet a kind, patient family to care for him and his special needs, and give him the love and nurturing he deserves.

If you can help, please email Maria at kittymlg@hotmail.com. In whatever way, large or small, that you can help Stewart find a home, I thank you.

JAKE - Gray/White LH Adult Male Diabetic
Jake is a beautiful long-hair gray/white adult who was diagnosed with diabetes about a year ago. A senior gentleman who owned Jake is in Assisted Living and does not have the capability of administering
insulin to Jake or monitoring his condition.  Jake is currently receiving insulin once a day and is under fair
control. He really needs a home where someone is committed to managing his condition.  We have exhausted our options through our existing adoption channels and are looking for a long-term home for Jake. He is a beautiful and affectionate cat, and does great with other cats.

Transportation to an approved home will be provided by Kindred Kitties.
