Phoenix is a deaf catahoula mix. He is 1 year old, a red merle, and very energetic. he's outgoing and loves people. he'd bark at them for attention and to tell them to come over and pet him. He gets along with dogs, but once was attacked by a dominant male so any dominance makes him nervous. he'd be happiest in a home with an assertive but easy going male dog, or a female dog. He cannot be in a home with cats because he likes to try to play too rough and will hurt them. he loves children and insists on zealously bestowing doggy kisses on them but that tends to overwhelm young children so older children are best. He is crate trained and had completed four weeks of doggy boot camp for obedience so he has come back with a lot of signs he knows. He knows sit, lie down, stay, no, bad dog, good dog, come here, go play, shake, and go to your crate.
He is neutered and up to date on his shots. His adoption fee is $150.00

I helped a family get a dog from KY. The dog looked like a "lethal white" Aussie to me, but I asked the warden 3 times if the dog could hear, and he assured me that he could. Well, surprise, the dog is deaf and the family does not want him. He is here with me, which was never my intention, as I have a 14-year old Aussie dying of a lung tumor. I also have NO experience with deaf dogs, and as my own dog is requiring so much of time in her last few weeks, I cannot do right by this deaf dog. He is an 10-month old male, neutered, UTD on all vaccination & Heart Worm- & on preventative. He is a sunny, happy fellow, loves everybody he meets, gets along with all other dogs and finds cats fun to chase if they run. If they don't run, he ignores them. He is BIG - about 60 pounds now with some growing to do. He knows
how to shake hands, is crate trained, and walks well on a leash. He is in MA.
I simply do not have the time nor experience that this guy needs in this critical period in his life.
Any help finding him a place to go would be most appreciated. And yes, he is a male, but we are calling him Helen in honor of Helen Keller. He'll never know... Best, and thank you for any help with him. Linda lindarollins38@comcast.net

Mickey the blind Akita, he is approx. 2 years of old. Mickey is a real lover, he is good with other dogs, children however he is not a cat lover. Mickey is full and energy and fun, walks well on lead. Mickey has been seen by Dr. Miller a K 9 eye specialist and he is completely blind. Mickey was left tied to a light pole on the corner of a busy intersection in the heat of the day. Dr. Miller states Mickey can live a good life when placed in a forever home once he learns his way around his home. He could also do well with another dog as his seeing eye dog. Sometimes another dog will take on the responsibility of a dog with disability. We will cover the cost of his neuter and we will pay to ship him whereever he needs to go for a forever home if necessary. EKCURTIS1@aol.com
Bentley is a schnauzer mix who also has quite a tale to tell. Bentley went into foster care many months ago but sadly developed a case of distemper a short time later. Many dogs can’t pull through this vicious disease, but Bentley is a little fighter. He just refused to give up, and managed to survive! The sad part is that it left him with permanent nerve damage. He basically has a nervous “twitch”. You barely notice it when he’s running and playing like any dog…but when he lays down or sleeps you see quite clearly. It almost looks like he has a bad case of the hiccups. It is most likely permanent damage, but it does not bother Bentley in the least! He still likes to play outside, go on walks and lay around the house like any dog. He is about 3 years old now, heartworm negative and in otherwise great health. The vet says that the nerve damage should not hinder him in any way. Bentley would do best in a home with only female dogs (he likes to be the only male!) Is anyone out there looking for a “special” boy who will love them forever, dispite his disability?? Contact Kathy at kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net if you are interested.

My name is Andrew. My girlfriend, from Union NJ, has an 8-9 year old yellow lab/beagle mix with a heart murmur and can no longer afford the medical bills. She refuses to put her down or send her to a shelter that will only put her down. Can you help? We would love for Maggie to have a home or sanctuary, so she can enjoy the rest of her life.

Samantha was rescued recently, is heartworm negative and spayed. She is a shepherd-mix, weighs 54 lbs and has a gorgeous personality She is up-to-date on all her vaccinations. P.J. is a 3-year-old German Shepherd mix who is currently scheduled to be euthanized at Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter in Bozeman, MT. Before coming to the shelter, PJ was hit by a tractor and lost one eye. He is now blind on one side and also sustained some damage to his hip. The reason he is being put down is because, while he is not in any pain at the moment, he may need to have one of his legs amputated 2-3 years down the road. PJ is a sweet, gentle boy who loves people and most other dogs. He is neutered, housebroken, and fully vaccinated. I would also be willing to transport PJ to a potential home and pay for his food and medical costs for the first year. If interested, please contact me at: (406) 586-0186. A couple of months ago Daisy came to our shelter as a stray. We soon found out that she is partially deaf and that she has epilepsy. She is a beautiful girl and really wants to find the right family. She loves other dogs, loves kids and actually gets along great with cats!! She was going to be put down because of her "bully breed" (Dogo or Pitbull) looks and medical condition but the staff all fell in love with her and now we are trying to find a home for her. Medication is cheap and she hears well enough to understand commands. Now all she needs is a home!!!!!!!! Could she be so lucky to find a home?? Someone who actually loves her for who she is??? Daisy 1 1/2 year old spayed and micro-chipped female. HOMELESS. Shelmarie Main - Animal Care Specialist - Irvine Animal Care Center - (949) 724-7740 the-malones@cox.net
I'm trying to help a kill shelter find a rescue for a blind and partially deaf lab. Are there any rescues that specialize in these "special" pets?? This pet is located in Greensburg IN. I can try to help with transport as well.

Lancaster,Ohio: Moroco is a 1 year old Husky/Shepherd mix. He was left at grandma and grandpa's house because he didn't like dad's girlfriend. Grandpa doesn't like him because he is deaf and has some problems understanding. Moroco tries to get along with Grandpa's boxer but there are some issues there as well.
No one wants to pay for any training to help him learn to behave and communicate.
Grandpa is taking Moroco to the pound in two (2) weeks if a home or placement is not found.
Please pass the word to all you know who might be able to help.

Due to our busy schedule we are not able to properly care of an Airedale Terrier baby named Wishbone. He was born April 2, 2008 with a dilated esophagus and need to be feed in the upright position. He needs to eats from an elevated platform or position, so gravity pulls the food down to his stomach. That is because his esophagus muscles do not move the food down to the stomach by itself. He need to stay seated or standing for up to 30 minutes after eating to allow gravity to pull his food down to the stomach. If not, they he may regulate the food that is in his esophagus and that could cause some food to come up into his lungs. It is possible that he might outgrow this problem, but not likely.

I have been a volunteer with Pets Alive Rescue in Helena, AL for the past 4 years. I have since moved to Ann Arbor, MI but still continue to support this great rescue group. We rescued a dog that has been diagnosed with cerebellar dysfunction. They think she had damage to her brain stem during the birthing process. She shakes like she has Parkinson's disease. She is still when she sleeps. We have named her Dancer because she just dances around. She is about 10 months old and has been spayed. Dancer has been in a wonderful foster home with another dog with the same condition. The foster parents have to give her up because she has become aggressive around other dogs. We truly feel this is because of her disability. We have had her treated by a holistic vet who has been giving her herbs and acupuncture. Dancer really has been doing very well. She NEEDS a home with no other pets and with people who will give her the love she deserves. I have never seen her aggressive around people. The rest of her litter mates were all born OK and they all have good homes. Please let me know if you can help our little gal. We can get her to you and I would be glad to make a donation in her honor. Laurie Bell, Ann Arbor, MI GABell4@aol.com

Molly is a blind and partially deaf great pyrenees who was found dumped in a field wandering in circles. She is a big sweet beautiful girl. Molly has had her rabies shot and they removed her back dew claws as her's had grown in and were infected. The vet said that Molly's blindness is from glaucoma, and that she is well past the painful part of that condition. She can hear some and will turn to your voice. He estimated her to be approximately 3-4 years old. She appears to be spayed. She is a large dog and probably weighs around 125 pounds. She needs to be in a smaller area, with defined boundaries so she has something to orient herself to. When she is in large, open areas, she will simply go in circles. She is very sweet and loving. She does well with the foster's other dogs, two females and one male. She can be mildly food agressive She can be a little leary of men at first but does warm up with time. She does well inside or outside, and seems to be well mannered. She does best outside walking on her leash with her seeing eye person by her side. She is also good with children. The foster's neighbor has six.If you can open your heart to this beautiful sweet girl who happens to be blind, please let us know.My e-mail is kat_wil@yahoo.com and my phone number is 281-658-7740.
This is Teddy's story: He was adopted by a couple when he was a puppy through the Vet who handles all the SPCA animals. He was a tiny ball of fluff, just cute as could be. He grew up to be a beautiful "Benji" type dog, sweet, friendly and in love with everyone. Sounds great doesn't it !! Well Teddy is now 2 years old and the couple finally figured out the Teddy is "DEAF" and now they don't want him. They brought him back to the Vet and said he's deaf and we don't want to deal with it and he's all yours.....good bye !! So now Teddy is living at the Vet hospital instead of his home with the big back yard......... hoping someone will want him and love him just as he is.
Teddy is: Neutered male. 2 years old, House broken
Heart worm negative , On Heartgard and Frontline Shots UTD , Will be micro chipped
Great with other dogs, cats and kids, Very sweet, playful and loving
And deaf.
Presently in Mississippi

My name is Schroeder. I am a male rottie mix , approximately 2 years old. I weigh about 60 pounds. I am a charming type of guy who likes dogs, and kids, but prefer a home with no cats. I only need some attention from a new family to make me happy. I am very handsome, smart and wise beyond my years. I need some work on my basic training, but truly am a pleaser, so I will learn quickly. I wonder how I ended up living here at the shelter, but have never come up with an answer. I am hoping for a family who will cherish my funny smile and will over look the fact that I have a minor problem called Epilepsy . My medication is very cheap, so please do not let that scare you away from coming to meet me. "The Marlie's Fund" can help pay for my medication, if you need help. I crave nothing more then to be your best friend, won’t you allow me to be that? Please contact Terrilyn at ttilley1@tampabay.rr.com Or call her at 941-238-7810

When Susie was a small puppy, only 4 weeks old... She was used as pitbull bait for fighting. She was thrown in with 2 pitbulls, and laid screaming as her two back legs were chewed off. She was left for dead, terribly drained of blood, energy, and spirit.
She was found, nearly dead. The rescuers rushed her to the nearest animal hospital, and the vet was able to save her. But barley. It took weeks for her to get her energy and strength back. She grew up, into a somewhat normal, traumatized puppy. Because of her past...she has some animal aggression. She is extremely food aggressive around other dogs, and doesn't like small dogs. Everything else about her is perfect~
She has a wheel chair, and a fake leg, and she does get around very well. She is 3 years old, and has been to many homes, and has been rejected too many times.
Nobody wants her. She is alone, waiting for a home. Unloved.
She is just the reject dog, the messed up dog. What she is really..is the wonderful spirit, who has been drained of all life. She needs a permanent home. Or a rescue that can find her a permanent him. PLEASE... If you can rescue her..,
She has experienced unbearable pain, heart wrenching betrayal, and is now giving up hope as something as simple as a hug. Can you change that for her?

Hello, My name is Lisa . I rescued a little guy off the street and he needs help. There is no telling how long he has been out on the street, I did all the things that I could think of to do, I put up signs, put an ad in the Sac Bee, Craigslist. I have had not response. This little guy is about 10-12 lbs I would say he is 15 plus years old, he is almost blind, he hears pretty well, I know he needs medical attention, he has a bad cough (not like kennel cough) this is more like an asthma cough in humans. He breaths very heavy shot breaths. Since I have had him his energy level is up. I am unable at this time to get him the medical help i'm sure he needs. I was really hoping that one of you rescue groups out there could take him. I do not want to take him to the SPCA. I have attached a couple of pictures of him. I have been wanting to give him a bath and clean him up but I was afraid that he might get sicker than he is if he gets cold.
Will one of you please help this little guy!! Please email me or call me 916-912-7496 LBRESHEARS2003@comcast.net

I work with a volunteer group in northern NJ that medically helps animals from the Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teterboro NJ for animals they can't afford to treat. Buster is a 3 year old, neutered, Shepherd/Akita mix who was hit by a car and brought to the shelter. FOCAS, the volunteer group, paid for his physical therapy at a specialist hospital for over 5 weeks but his time is up. He only improved slightly and needs a sling and two people to help him walk. He eliminates outside but is 79 pounds and just a love. Everyone at the hospital loves him. We don't want to bring him to the shelter because they will put him down. Please, Please help.
